Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.

Patrick Leenaers

Patrick Leenaers (Ptrik) is born in 1968 in Tongeren, the oldest city of Belgium. In his childhood he already had a creative mind and he loved to make small, even tiny little things. In his teenage years, he went to the Art Academy in Hasselt and Tongeren (Belgium), but school implied to many rules for Patrick. He abandoned Art for many years and started only professionally in his forties. The little ‘things’ became a definite form, his signature piece of Art: sitting men. From a tiny few centimeters to finally more than one meter!

As he lacked rules in school, he also lacks rules in his Art-works. He likes to make pieces and sculptures using old materials from demolished buildings to natural wood, stone, … But always with his signature small sitting men. He also paints. Sometimes using bright colours, sometimes only brown and white. Different techniques, using different materials to paint. Often using strange materials as metal, old books, even money bills from all the world wide countries he visited. And of course never without his signature small sitting men.

His art expositions are always a mixture of very different things, pieces, colors, etc. It is never boring. Because that is how his mind works. But always one thing makes it very clear who is the artist of the work: the little sitting men, in Flemish called ‘mennekes’.
